So, in your search for the perfect partner you've found someone online who has a lot of potential, you've seen photos, emailed, texted, called, IM'd and even Blackberry messaged each other!

You get a good feeling about this person, now what's the next step? To meet of course!

But the first meeting can be daunting, even if you've spent hours getting to know someone. You may have plenty of questions running through your mind, what do I wear, what time shall we meet, will I be attracted to this person in the flesh! However the most important question you should ask yourself is this... Where shall we meet?

Not to fear, we have lots of ideas for you on meeting points for first dates... it really all depends on how adventurous you are! The main thing you need to remember is that you don't know this person and your safety is paramount! As much as we all wish everyone in this world was as they seem, this may not always be the case and we must ensure our own safety is number one when getting to know someone new.

So here's a few tips on staying safe on your first date:

  1. Always tell someone where you are going. Whether it's a friend, a sibling, your work colleagues or your parents.
  2. If possible let your confidant know an approximate time you will be back home (text them if you are running late, so they don't worry).
  3. Pre-arrange a meeting point, even book a table, at least the restaurant will know you are coming.
  4. Do what I do, NEVER let a date pick you up from home. Take your own car/get a taxi and meet them somewhere, secondly never get into their car until you have absolute trust in them.
  5. If you have arranged a meeting point from which you will need to go on elsewhere take your car with you and follow them (you might save petrol by getting in your dates car, but remember you don't know this person yet, so stay safe!)
  6. ALWAYS meet in a public place, don't meet somewhere quiet and secluded.
  7. Text/call someone to let them know you are on your way home, so they know when to expect you back – safe and sound!
  8. And finally once you have all your safety precautions in place, remember to have fun, enjoy yourself and be yourself!
