It's in the Daily Mail so it must be true. A team of scientists from Manchester University have been looking into what holds a man's eye when he looks at a woman.
By using eye-tracking technology they found that in the ten seconds after initial face to face meeting blokes will spend over half their time looking her straight in the lips.
If she's wearing pink lippy he'll be staring at her mouth for 6.7 seconds and if she's wearing crimson then he'll be stuck like a rabbit in the headlights for 7.3 seconds.
Research leader Dr Beattie notes that “This study proves that lips represent one of the most sensual aspects of a woman's body and play a critical role in human sexual attraction. Full and red lips combined deliver the perfect pout to achieve male fixation, but women who simply wear lipstick - regardless of their lip type - secure significantly greater levels of attraction than those who do not.”
Curiously enough the study also concluded that Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson were attractive (do they paid to come up with this stuff?).
Which tells us two things:
One is that men are complete suckers for a bit of lippy.
Secondly scientists are clearly missing the point since the really good research would have been to do the same study again but with visible cleavage added to the mix to see whether any of their test subjects actually managed more than a millisecond of eye contact during the first five minutes.
Happy New Year!
